For centuries, Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand,
have been custodians of the country’s natural resources,
cultivating and nurturing Aotearoa’s sacred lands.

Tohu Wines and KONO Wines are a "gift from the land" and is the
result of this respect and care for Papatuanuku,
the Earth Mother.

Tohu Wines currently produces Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough Pinot Noir and Gisborne Chardonnays. Premium varieties from two of New Zealand’s finest grape growing regions. The company also makes KONO Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and KONO Marlborough Chardonnay.

Vineyards

Wakatu Incorporation is the majority shareholder in Tohu Vineyards. At present the Awatere Valley vineyard is yielding some of the finest Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Riesling grapes. The first Sauvignon Blanc harvest from the Awatere has been made into Tohu Mugwi Sauvignon Blanc.

The Waihopai vineyard, also in Marlborough, produces Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.

Whenua Matua or homelands in the Upper Moutere is home to a third vineyard which in the future will produce Nelson Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.

Owners

Tohu Wines is the result of a partnership between three successful New Zealand Maori business enterprises: Wi Pere Trust, Ngati Rarua Atiawa Iwi Trust and Wakatu Incorporation.

KONO Wine is owned entirely by Wakatu Incorporation.
