Land - Whenua is the mauri, or foundation, of Wakatū. Over 70% of our assets are held in land, with our trading activities primarily land based.

From vineyards, orchards and grazing land to residential properties, modern offices and retail developments - Wakatū manages a diverse property portfolio. We are one of the largest private land owners in Te Tahu Ihu (top of the South Island).

Property development

We are an active property developer in the Nelson and Motueka areas, having developed a number of exciting retail and office buildings, residential and industrial subdivisions. Currently we have proposals to develop a Lifestyle Village, and Office Block and a Shopping Centre.
As property developers, we continually offer properties for sale to the market.

Rural land

Our rural lands are primarily based around Motueka. They include grazing land, orchards and vineyards.

Lease property

Wakatū has a diverse portfolio of property leased to tenants ranging from private individuals to international corporations. Our portfolio includes residential, rural, office, retail and industrial properties.

Information for tenants

Here we outline information for tenants leasing property owned by Wakatū, including an explanation of how rents are set and ways to pay.

Corpus land

Wakatū was established in 1977, and the land returned to it comprised the remnants of the Nelson tenths and occupational reserves. This whenua formed the corpus land vested in Wakatū.

Wahi tapu

Wakatū staff and agents work actively to protect sites of significance for future generations.
